Fabric Pocket/Purse

Materials required:

2 pieces of contrasting woven fabric

Sewing thread

Sewing needle (large eye and sharp point)

Button (optional)

Ribbon (optional)

Scissors

Pen/pencil (to mark outline of shapes)

Template/ruler (to cut fabric shapes)


Uses:


This project can be adapted to hold a variety of items:

  • Bank notes 
  • Tissues 
  • Postage stamps
  • Cosmetics 
  • Buttons 



Instructions:


  1. Cut two pieces of fabric; place right sides together. 
  2. Sew running stitch around sides and top, 0.5 cm (0.25”) from raw edges. 
  3. Turn inside out; fold raw edges 0.5 cm (0.25”) to the inside, slip stitch or mattress stitch to close open end. 
  4. Fold up lower edge about one third of the length (see diagram), stitch sides closed inside and outside. 

Optional: sew on button(s) on body and ribbon loop(s) on flap to close pocket. Fold flap down.
